Ascent Trip ReportThe WTA entry for this hike makes it sound as though the trail is closed, but that does not appear to be the case: there are no road or trail closure signs in place, and there's even what appears to be a Forest Service sign (one of those brown & white ones) pointing the way to "Wind Mountain Trail" near the parking area.
I arrived at the gravel parking area around 18:00 on a warm, sunny Monday evening. There were no other cars around (also nothing indicating that a parking pass is required here). Found the obvious trailhead a short way down the road from the parking area, and hiked up a beautiful, steep, forested trail to the summit of Wind Mountain. No obstacles to speak of; this trail is actually in great shape.
Excellent views of the Columbia River, Dog Mountain, and Mount Adams from the summit. There are also several rock structures up there that are apparently Native American artifacts-- a informational sign near the top says so. I didn't see any other people at all on this hike, but there were quite a few insects to keep me company.
All in all this turned out to be an excellent choice for a quick evening workout hike, with some awesome views to boot!
