Ascent Trip Report

I decided to bag Panorama Point on the way to Hastings, NE for a weekend of family gatherings (on my GF's side) and total solar eclipse viewing. We came in from the West using back roads since Google wanted us to avoid CO highways packed with eclipse viewers. There are some really pretty mesas covered in cows and windmills on the Colorado side of the border, but everything is smooth and flat once you're in Nebraska.

Once you're at the gate, you pay the posted $3 entrance fee at a drop box and once you resign yourself to driving to the high point as the property owner requires (for safety due to the resident bison herd) it only takes a couple of minutes to get there. The road was in pretty good condition and anything but the lowest clearance cars should be able to make it. The summit provides a nice panorama of the plains and a marker for all of your summit photo needs.

It still feels like cheating to drive up...
