Ascent Trip ReportDO NOT follow Google directions to "Goosenest Trailhead". It is a trap! Bad roads and way further north than necessary. I got there at 1:30 AM after driving for 12.5 hrs from Oregon (Eclipse event). An SUV with Washington plates was parked there as well.
If you want to hike well established trail, follow directions from USDA Forest Service:
From I-5 in Weed, CA travel northwest on US Hwy 97 approx 20 miles to Forest Road 45N22 (International-Miller Road). Turn left and go approximately 8.8 miles to Forest Road 45N72Y (Goosenest Road). Take that road 2 miles to the trailhead.
I got there in passenger car without problems, but scratched sides badly with overgrown bushes. Driving at night noticed six species of mammals: unidentified mouse, western jumping mouse, striped skunk, black-tailed jackrabbit, gray fox, and mule deer.
