Ascent Trip ReportThis was the day before the total solar eclipse and lots of people were setting up tents at the campground and on the mountain, and even on the summit. Chicken Out Ridge was relatively straightforward class 3, but we did have some difficulty with the 15' rock step down onto the snow crossing. On the way back we crossed the snow lower down, and this was much easier. Past the step and after a traverse, the last long climb to the summit is loose dirt and scree, slow to climb and slippery on the way down.
Views from the summit were good, but the distance was hazy due to forest fires. The round trip took us about 9 hours.
