Ascent Trip Reporti was driving from ketchum to pocatello. i went in via dennis poulin's directions. i'm attaching a driving track from this direction in case it's useful for others. most of this approach is good gravel, but there are definitely some dusty/sandy sections. the drive up the mountain is definitely 4x4 high clearance good tires territory though.
on the way out i planned to use richard hensley's track, and i circled to the south of the mountain, where i decided to punch my destination into gmaps. gmaps took me on a great gravel road heading SE: gmaps calls it the "goodale cutoff" and "big butte springfield rd". this eventually took me into farm country, and back to the highway along W 200 N / parks rd. i got back to the highway just outside of blackfoot.
it was something like 3 to 3.5h from highway to highway on this path.
