Ascent Trip Report

gmaps will take you to the summit, but you'll need to ignore its suggestion of taking some short-cut up a less well-maintained road. just stick to NF-2010, which is the obviously more well-traveled road at all intersections. there are also a handful of "vinegar hill" signs. the road is great gravel for 8 miles, and then the next 5.4mi is 4x4, high-clearance, good all-terrain tire territory. it gets progressively worse as you make your way up the mountain, and if you're nervous about narrow steep roads then consider looking for parking after the switch back about 12 miles in. it took me about 50 minutes from pavement to where i parked.

i scrambled up and tagged both potential high points. then set off downhill to go bag vinegar hill NE: a national forest high point.
