Ascent Trip ReportDrove to the summit from Silver City. As of Summer 2017, the road is in excellent condition all the way to the summit. I had no issues making it in a RAV4. 4WD helped with traction in a few places, and clearance is necessary for some of the rocks and ruts, but otherwise a great road. At the junction of the summit road and the main road, I met Dave Jurasevich, who is an accomplished peakbagger. This was my first encounter with a peakbagger in the wild, so that was pretty exciting. He was incredibly friendly and told us that the summit road was in great condition.
My wife and I spent the night in the Idaho Hotel in Silver City, a 140 year old hotel. It was a fun experience. The people there are quite friendly and the food is great. I highly recommend checking it out. The local masonic cemetery is excellent and the old buildings are fascinating. |
