Ascent of Oxford Mountain on 2009-10-24Date: | Saturday, October 24, 2009 | Ascent Type: | Successful Summit Attained | Peak: | Oxford Mountain | Location: | USA-New Jersey | Elevation: | 1000 ft / 304 m |
Ascent Trip ReportThis was cool. Parked at the picnic area on 31 south of the high point. Probably the steepest approach, but I was looking for a workout. 100 feet took me to Tunnel Hill road. Wondered briefly if I should have parked there, but kept heading up. Remarkably, not many brambles and stickers, which is rare for my highpointing. Once you gain the ridge, you will cross a few false summits. Right before I got to the high point, I spooked a black bear, which made my day. He (or she) trundled off to the north and I just grooved on my luck that day. As the weather quickly deteriorated, I headed northeast to Sykes gap to bag County House Mountain. |
