Ascent Trip ReportAn overnighter. I backpacked to Griswold Lake on the first day. Once I set up camp at the lake, I checked out the beginning of the route from the lake to Ruby Dome. Having identified the first part of the route up to Ruby Dome the first day (there's a trail and then a ducked route until the ducks were under the snow). On the second day, I headed up from the lake to Ruby Dome. I had my choice of snow or the rocks next to the snow from about 10,000'. The snow was easier; so I stayed on it. The slope was steeper close to the saddle and I didn't have axe/crampons; so I went straight up toward the peak at about 10,600' on the rocks and found myself on rocks that were too loose and too steep for my comfort level; so I wasted a bunch of time traversing over toward the saddle on the way up even though it was just a short distance. On the way down, I went back down toward the saddle and got onto the snow just below the steeper section at at about 10,800', which made going down so easy - all the way back down to 10,000 on nice firm snow and easy terrain from there. I've uploaded the track showing my route that avoided the looser rocks on the way down.
