Ascent Trip Report

Did trip from Holden Village, did not want to carry heavy packs up to Copper Basin, and to beat the heat, started at 3:20am. Made a route finding mistake right off the bat, followed the signs to "copper basin" instead of traversing left on road to "tailings bypass" trail. We ended up on right side of Copper Creek and couldn't cross. After 400' gain, trail peters out, we hated to lose that much elevation, so marched on. Actually wasn't too bad in the burned out forest, we traversed higher and higher. Kept traversing under the cliff bands, didn't have too much brush, was able to scramble up under the cliff bands, some 4th class moves, and eventually saw the way up to the glacier. Probably took 2 or 3 hours more effort than the trail! Rest of climb was ok and on route. Actually a very pleasant climb, sustained exposed scrambling on final ridge, pretty solid holds, should get climbed more often.
