Ascent Trip Report

Climbed solo on July 9th. Started from Carson pass. Climbed up to meiss meadows via the PCT. Traversed North east across the Plateau. Tons of wildflowers, absolutely gorgeous display this year due to all the snow. Had to multiple snow field crossings, however, due to the low angle of the climb they were all very easy, and no significant exposure. Reached the saddle between the peaks in short time. Elected to climb Red Lake Peak first due to the higher grade. Was able to easily find the unmaintained trail southwest toward the summit crags. Was thankful not such snow here due to steepness of climnb. Was able to easily find the class 4 chutes along the east face. The first portion of the climb was the most difficult, after getting to crest and climbing down slightly over to the west side was able to traverse up the broad ledge until reaching the crest again and climbing up and over to the peak summit back on the east side. Found what looked like a new summit register in a plastic pretzel can. Climb was not super challenging, but there was plenty of exposure. Day was fairly hazy, so had limited distant views, could only barely see lake tahoe. I was impressed by the still massive amounts of snow to the south, especially the north face of Round top. The snow this year was just insane. Climb back down to the saddle was uneventful, found the unmaintained "trail" along the ridge that traversed the east side. Amazing wildflowers the whole way. Climb up to Stevens was steeped than expected, but easily made on mostly firm rock. View from top was awesome. Retraced my steps back to car. Met several through hikers while back on the PCT. I guess the epic winter has not deterred many of the hikers.
