Ascent of Emmons-Winthrop Glaciers Route AG II (40*). 6:30am summit. Descend same.

Party of three: Kristen (1st ascent), Nik (1st ascent via this route) & H ascent #2 (tf).

Approach: 6/31/17 from White River Campground via Glacier Basin Trail (3.5 miles) to Inter Glacier & Emmons Glacier to Camp Schurman (2 more miles). 7 hour approach.

Climb: 13 manageable crevasses. 5 hour climb & 3 down. We saw a guide Emmons group ($2,200 each plus hundreds for gear rental) and some DC guided groups ($1,000 each plus hundreds for gear rental).

Descent: 3,500 feet of glissade chutes on the Inter Glacier. Be very cautions as three chutes terminate into crevasses. 3 hours out. 18 hours of climbing/hiking this trip.

Conditions: Firm icy snow. 4' fins. I recommend you be off the glaciers before the sun softens the snow bridges around 10am. One ranger on duty.

Pro used: None (all rescue related).

Recommended pro: Rope, harness, helmet, rappel device, prusiks, z rigs, pickets, long screws, shovel / saw, dead men & snow flukes. Also a signal mirror to signal the ranger for last resort.
