Ascent Trip Report

Quite an adventure, with exposed scrambling on sometimes dubious rock. 4h up, 3h down.

From NW, Forcella Franche pass as per MR, steep trail initially, entering impressive valley hemmed in by big limestone cliffs, contorted strata. In upper part of valley path crosses to LHS of some boulders, paint marks, then follows edge of scree to cross a saddle then descends slightly before climbing scrambly gully (YDS3) and turning R to gain main ridge in a few mins.

Paint marks indicate R on main ridge which leads towards main summit, a little scrambling and exposed traversing. Marked trail then heads steeply down L. Summit route goes straight, initially taking zigzag scramble then following a ridge, with small cairns, occasional exposed scrambling and some loose rock, although with care it's safe enough. A final cairn seems to indicate a rubbly ledgy route coming up from S. Ignoring this, a short climb leads to grassy summit with small cairn. In cloud, no views.

Afternoon showers don't materialise, pretty warm descent, spend night in lovely quiet Marmolada campsite (arrival after dark no problem) with thunderstorm and heavy rain overnight but clear next morning.
