Ascent Trip Report

TR FOR THE PAWTUCKAWAY MOUNTAINS

SOUTH MOUNTAIN (FIRE TOWER) ...... From the parking area on Tower road it is a short Eastward hike on a wide trail, marked by a large green arrow on a tree on the East side of the parking. A beautiful summit with the Fire Tower and a number of rocky summits ..... 1/2 hour RT.

MIDDLE MOUNTAIN ...... Leave the TH and follow the woods track north, it will loop to the left and follow the ridge southwest to the wooded summit ..... not obvious, a number of bumps within close proximity. For views continue a short distance along the ridge to a lookout. Return the same way, 1 hour RT.

NORTH MONTAIN ...... The trail starts out heading generally north as a wide woods road, at a T junction turn right for 100 feet to the start of the foot trail on the left (small cairn, white blazed). It is a beautiful easy to moderate hike up the partially open rocky ridge.
Don't be fooled by a false summit with a huge cairn ..... the actual summit is 150 feet beyond, a large rock outcrop with a cairn and 3 US Coast & Geodetic Survey Markers (1 1/2 hour RT).

DIRECTIONS TO THE TH'S FOR THE PAWTUCKAWAY MOUNTAINS (SOUTH, MIDDLE AND NORTH SUMMITS).
From the west side, hwy #107 between Deerfield and Raymond locate reservation road ....2.7mi south of Deerfield or 4mi north of Raymond.
Travel east on Reservation road for 2.4mi to a T junction (pass the NORTH MOUNTAIN TH on the left, a gated road at 1.7mi, it is posted "trail #12).
Turn left and follow the rough road (refered-to in places as Tower road or Mountain road)for .75mi to a parking area with a toilet ..... this is the TH FOR THE SOUTH MOUNTAIN.
THE TH FOR THE MIDDLE MOUNTAIN is on the left about 300 feet before the forementioned parking area.

"COURAGE DOES NOT ALWAYS ROAR ...... SOMETIMES IT IS A QUIET VOICE AT THE END OF THE DAY, SAYING .... "I WILL TRY AGAIN TOMORROW."
