Ascent Trip Report

Second highest peak in NC summitted after climbing Mitchell by way of the Old Mt. Mitchell Summit Trail. Descided to bag some other 6,000 foot peaks nearby by use of the Deep Gap Trail which is found in the picnic area off of the lower parking area when you come down off of Mount Mitchell. The trail begins as a well maintained limerock path with timber borders and then descens some steep rock steps. There are some steep sections with nice metamorphic slabs of schist that have great views.
