Ascent Trip ReportFrom Big Arroyo Ranger Cabin, go to junction with High Sierra Trail and continue bushwhacking uphill. Proceed to the end of the timber, jog right to gain the upper shelf, then head left across easy terrain to the high lake below Black Kaweah. Follow Secor's Southwest Face Route; we climbed snowfields to the right-hand couloir, where the snow ended. There are a few cairns marking the route across to then directly up the main couloir. One fifth-class move is bypassed on the left; the rest is loose 2nd and 3rd class. Couloir goes directly to the summit, where there is a register. Total trip, about 40 miles and 15,000 feet via Timber Gap and Black Rock Pass.
