Ascent Trip ReportParked at the Flume Visitor Center and was on the trail by 9am. Took Pemi Trail to Whitehouse Trail from parking lot, comes together with the Franconia Bike trail for about ¼ mile. Turn onto Liberty Spring Trail. Trail has one small stream crossing, aside from that it is moderately steep and straight up the side of Mount Liberty. Trail consists of large rocks and steps built into the hill side. Turn onto Franconia Ridge Trail about 0.3 miles from summit of Mount Lberty. At summit rime ice had collected on trees and rocks. Summit was very windy and exposed with 360° views including Canon Mountain, North and South Kinsman Loon Mountain, the towns of Lincoln and Woodstock and the Presidentials in the distance across the Pemi Wilderness. Continuing on the Franconia Ridge Trail, which quickly dropped back into trees, it is a fast ~ 35 minute hike to summit of Mount Flume, another exposed summit with views in all directions. Turned back and retraced back to the parking lot. |
