Ascent Trip ReportGot a late start 830 thinking this would be easier than it was. We greatly underestimated the endeavor. We started by crossing the stream then bushwhacking up the slope towards the saddle above. It was seriously steep but at least most of it was grassy. Towards the top it got rockier and steeper but we slogged on. We arrived at a cairn (Loveland?) then started off on the ridge which had a basic trail past many prospector holes. The going along the top was easy but loose rock everywhere. We climbed the final slope to the top of Buckskin or what we thought was the top then returned to the closest mini saddle to begin our decent down the very loose and pure talus slope. The going was rough and at some point some mountain goats ran down and across our path to show us how it's done or just humiliate us. Impressive critters they are. We made it to the grass finally but that was just the first 1/3 Crossing under the power lines we found another decent to a Lower plateau was required. We started down a steep slope then ended up in a snow filled gully which provided a quicker way down. The final slope was mostly grass and we were able to weave through the willows pretty easily and cross the stream with no problem followed by a short walk back to the car. Tour de Buckskin completed. A rough outing for sure.
My skitracker for the route we took. Started it late, after we crossed the brook and bushwhacked for a bit. (2017-07-10). Photo by Mike Wright.
