Ascent Trip Report

This was a nice outing in a neat little mountain range. After leaving trail 8954 to angle toward Old Baldy I found good game trails that took me into the open areas leading up to the west ridge. Heading up the west ridge it's mostly loose limestone rubble and a short walk over to the Golden Valley County highpoint is a nice bonus once on top. The east ridge of Greathouse has comparatively a lot more dirt and grass.

Heading down Greathouse, the upper part of trail 627 has almost completely faded out and there are many cow trails to create confusion. I headed down the obvious ridge and picked up the trail again as it reentered the forest, though the trail is barely traceable in spots until it crosses a fence shortly before dropping down to the creek.

This route is about 12.2 miles long with 4400 feet of gain.
