Ascent Trip Report

Gorgeous north coast day. Started at Carnahan Street and then walked 101 to Hug Point Road. Standard logging road approach. Just follow the main road, very easy. Take the Onion Peak spur. We used the standard random very old 4x4 trail, which is actually pretty easy to find. Relaxing until the bushwhacking, then its a hardy climb. It looks like the right side beyond the the basalt boulders might be the best path. We pretty much went straight over everything which worked, but was hard working. Summit is really underwhelming. True Onion Peak summit is way better. Of course, that is not a P2K, but it is really pretty. West Onion summit is garbage. We did a cut-off bushwhack descent and it was fun. A lot of mixed terrain and really tough going. Back down to the 4x4 track. Glad to have done this when it was dry. Actually a very hot day. Very sweaty!
