Ascent Trip ReportLight rain began as we started this hike and it continued throughout the day. The trail was muddy but the climb was without any incident.
Several Stream crossings and a pleasant walk through a fir stand made the beginning of the hike quite nice.
A bench and plaque on the way up, just before crossing a 30 ft. section of newly constructed foot bridging, indicated that someone had died on Scarface. Later research gave us information about a soldier who supposedly committed suicide on this mountain.
A flat pine needle covered trail wound through the woods, a cement foundation, and soon a sharp left turn brought us to the area where we would start gaining elevation. About 3/4 mile on walking before the climb began.
Several false summits made us question how we might recognize the top and therefore end of the trail. After a ledge and first really nice view we continued on a much more level grade for a long distance, twisting around the summit until we finally reached a small bare stone where a white metal disk proclaimed this to be the true summit of Scarface. We took pictures but the weather was not conducive to a long rest and pause. No sitting on this hike we probably spent 5-6 minutes there and proceeded off the mountain.
Two short areas of the climb had presented some difficulty on the way up. Just because they lacked easy hand holds or footing. they turned out to be somewhat easier on the way down and no real problems were encountered.
