Ascent Trip ReportKelley and I walked up the gated Barley Flats road from Angeles Crest Highway to the top of Barley Flats High Point and then to the top of Barley Flats. A sign at the locked and closed gate read "Stop, Restricted Road, No public Access, No Trespassing, No Exceptions". Another sign at the gate read " Trail Closed to Motorized Vehicles, Foot and Horse Travel Permitted". Based on the two conflicting signs, Kelley and I assumed that you could walk, but not drive, the road to Barley Flats. Also, as we approached Barley Flats we were reluctant to squeeze through the gate past the "Authorized Personnel Only" sign and walk up the road to the summit as most climbers do because a helicopter had just landed on top. Instead, we walked down the Barley Flats road to just below the top, then went up the slope to the green water tank mentioned in the HPS guide and looked for the summit register, but did not locate it. Kelley and I did not spend much time looking for the register because the helicopter was parked nearby and we were worried about running into someone.
