Ascent Trip Report

Camped overnight at Guffy CG. Started hiking with high overcast and higher humidity; which was a temporary break from the hot temperatures. Hiked the PCT to Wright Mountain. Just after the PCT reaches the giant slide, took the use trail (to the left). The use trail is overgrown in many places. When the trail reaches the top of the slide, there is a faint intersection. Stay straight. we got distracted and took the left turn to the edge of the slide then went right (missing what we should have gone straight). We worked hard getting thru brush etc. If you stay on the trail it is easy, as it was an old road at one time. Towards the summit the trail/road continues but look for the well used trail to the left which goes a short distance to the summit rock cairn. Signed the register. We explored down the north face with an intent of reaching peak point 8027. The terrain was steep with lots of loose pine needles. Didn't know if we could get back up; plus Larry forgot his trekking poles at the summit cairn. So we headed back.
