Ascent Trip ReportWe got very lucky with the weather...not a drop of rain fell on us for two days. Made it about halfway up the access road in our Nissan Rogue (nothing more robust available from the rental car companies). GPS tracks help, but the trail is very well ribboned. Waialeale rain gauge had only registered about 1.5 inches over the last three days, so stream crossing was just a boulder hop. A new fence has been constructed that starts almost exactly where "The Arrow" is supposed to be (sadly, no sign of the arrow). It's trivial to follow the fence to Sincock's from there (about a mile), we made it there with several hours to spare and camped.
Hoping to make it a two day affair, and not wanting to press our luck with weather, we left Sincock's at 5:40 am. We entered the clouds not far from the end of the fence, and we followed Peter and Greg's navigation to the summit. The only issue with the dry weather was the lack of water sources, and we were running low. We visited Waialeale lake to fill up on water (Laura, Greg, and Peter visited the rain gauge), and we were back at Sincock's not long after noon.
Retraced our steps back to the car, making it there around 8:45pm. A long day out, but worth it to get out in two days.
