Ascent Trip Report

After work hike with the CMC. Trip led by wife and husband team of Linda and Tom Jagger; accompanied by Brad Cotton, Taobrien and myself. This outing was filled with botanist and wild flower enthusiast so I learned about 8 or so species of wildflowers along the way.

We parked at the pass and headed up the obvious trail which is well maintained and not used enough to be worn in too deep. Easy hiking and trail to find. Only near the beginning was there some snow on ground to slush through but the ridge walk was free of snow. The ridge has numerous bumps so there is a lot of gain and regain with false summits. The views are very nice. A very pleasant walk once you make the ridge. Stanley has a good prominence but to continue to the next prominence peak (Vasquez) one would have to drop down quite a way and the path up the ridge was still covered with snow and cornices so Stanley was a nice ending point.

All good chatting partners and all my age or a bit older. Tom was in splendid shape and as a co-leader allowed me to take a brisk pace to the summit before it got too dark. Brad also completed the summit. We had the most diverse conversations bounding between botany, military, politics, nature, avalanches, professional endeavors and past trips. The others stayed back and enjoyed the views and flowers and we met back up and hiked down.

I would do this hike again with Karen. I think she would enjoy it.
