Ascent Trip Report

We had originally wanted to hike Offersøykammen a few days earlier when we were in Ballstad, but the weather was not great, so we skipped it. It ended up pouring 30 min after we made that choice, so we felt vindicated. Offersøykammen was to be the second peak of the day, but we knew where to park and go for it, or so we thought. There was a German car parked in what we thought was the trailhead, so we needed to park down the road a bit. The trail we initially followed petered out after a short bit, so we just made our way uphill through the delightful forest to the heather until we found the trail. As a result, this GPS track is down only since the lower third of our uphill track is totally off course. The trail was easy to follow once we were on it. Offersøykammen’s summit was in and out of the clouds, so we hoped for a clearing when we topped out. Naturally, we would not be so lucky. We made it to the top in a cloud and sat down to wait for views. After 15 min or so, the clouds broke a bit and we could make out the mountains and beaches to the north. While the view was not perfect, it was nice. The descent was uneventful and we found the correct trail. Most of the ascent and descent below about 350m was in the sun, which was quite pleasant. We touched the ocean near the trailhead for a sea-to-summit stroll on this fine Arctic evening. Pics
