Ascent Trip ReportVolandstind presented itself to us as being in a good location to get great views of the fjords on either side of it as well as cloud-free as compared to our initial plan of Ryten to the NW. Volandstind has a trail up from the west side from the E10, but we opted for the trail up from the east side from Skeldsfjord. The trail starts at a nice large parking lot next to an orange building across from some fish racks where the power lines cross the road about a kilometer or so from the E10. We ascended the trail past a small hut that could be used as a camping spot to the main ridge. The trail continues up the main ridge to the 3 different bumps that are all pretty close in height for the summit. I marked all 3 on the GPS track as we felt that the central peak was not the highest and it was likely the north or south. The north peak makes for stunning photos, so it should be visited regardless. We met a nice Swiss couple on this peak who took some pics for us, so that was nice. The views are amazing, but that is to be expected for Lofoten! We were quite lucky as all of the higher peaks on Mosknesøya and to our east on Flakstadøya were all socked in by clouds. We were in the sun for the majority of the time on the hike and on the summits. After tagging all 3 peaks, taking pics, and having a snack of Smash (a brilliant Norwegian invention of chocolate-covered Bugles), we were on our way down. We headed towards the Ryten trailhead hoping for good weather, but decided to just snap a few pics and head towards our Airbnb near Svolvær. We met a nice Scottish couple near the Ryten trailhead who had hiked to Mulstøa and recommended it.
