Ascent Trip Report

After eating a late breakfast we made it to the trailhead to begin our hike. The hike into the Slide Brook Lean-To went very quickly because the change in elevation was minimal. We topped off our water and located the herds path from the campsite area at Slide Brook and began our trip onto unmaintained trails. From that point the trail began to increase in steepness at a good rate. The trail dumped out near the base of the Macomb Slide which was extremely steep. The first part of the slide was difficult because there was so much loose rock and dirt but as we ascended to more sturdy ground the going got easier. We had a beautiful view of Elk Lake the entire way up and it was cool watching the Great Range come into view as we ascended. From the top of the slide we went back into the tree line for a short while then arrived at the summit of Macomb. Great views from the summit.
