Ascent Trip ReportOn a snowy June day I hiked up the Maynard Burn Trail to Mt Baldy, then across the ridge to Gray Wolf. 10 hours and 13-16 miles car to car, because I took a detour on the way back to Baldy to avoid some steep snow and scree I did not favor on the route in. In hindsight, I wish I had stayed on the ridge because I ended up in an even more unfavorable scree gully, eventually adding 1500 ft of gain, unwanted exposure, and a few miles to my already-long day. The conditions were white-out at the top, and I regret going alone. Company would have made this safer and more fun given the conditions.
This was my 14th Washington County high point. |
