Ascent Trip Report

05/27 - Afternoon hike up the Chief Joseph trail to the old washed out bridge. Thought this scenic old trail might be an option for reaching Joseph Knob as on the topo it basically goes right to the top. The creek at the bridge washout was running pretty hard, and would be a terrible place to fall.
05/28 - Started up the climbers trail at the marina a quarter after 5am. This trail climbs briskly, cutting the switchbacks of the old unmaintained Chief Joseph Trail. Amazing views of the upper snow covered face of Chief Joseph. Lots of ticks, cleaned several off my pants. This is an amazing conditioning hike, gaining over 3000 feet in less than 3 miles. On the hike out we did hike some of the old trail, and its not in great shape. Some large trees laying across it, and some brushy sections.
