Ascent Trip ReportThis was my fourth visit to Sugarloaf Ridge SP in six months. Maybe I should have purchased an annual pass.
Sonoma Creek was still running high and my boots got a bit wet wading across. A few minutes later, I encountered an open gate, marked "PG&E." From there, climbed a steep slope to a deer fence. Followed the fence line, battling brush and poison oak. The far better route (and my descent) would have been to gradually climb the ridge via an old road bed paralleling another fence.
The upper sections of the route featured spectacular wildflowers and great views. Tagged Little Bald's true highpoint and the one shown on the topo. No register or BM found. No negative signage. Returned via the campground, which was packed with families enjoying the fine weather.
3.2 miles; 1,200 feet gain.
