Ascent Trip ReportDagr (5 y/o son) and I drove around trying to find what looked like a public access trailhead, but everything seemed privately owned. For fear of ticking someone off, I didn't want to leave my truck parked at any of the open farm lots and access roads. We were driving on Butte Rd and passed a residence just before the Cinder Pits access road when I saw a man working outside. I decided I may as well stop and ask him for information since I couldn't find anything on the internet and nothing stood out to me as obvious. The gentleman and I talked a bit (he reminded me of my grandpa) and I learned that it was in fact private land and that he owned the northern part of the butte. He also knows the other main landowner and I got the feeling that it wouldn't be a problem if we were to hike to the top. He advised us to "mind the electric fences." So Dagr and I hiked in. We went over/under 2 electric fences on the approach and made it to the summit in about a half an hour. It was about 1 mile from where we parked the truck. It is a nice view of the Owyhee's and much of the Treasure Valley. On the way back down we stopped to climb some of the buttresses on the face of the butte and then headed down the way we came up.
