Ascent Trip ReportI had some time to kill while I was looking after my 7-month-old in Seward. I headed off to give a go at Peak 800/Peak 244 depending if you look at the metric maps. I parked at a gravel pull-off just after the Salmon Creek bridge on the west side of Bruno St. I walked a couple hundred feet down Bruno street to Trail St. Just past a nice barn is the access point to public land. Be sure to look at the Kenai Peninsula Borough property map to be sure you aren’t trespassing. There was some bushwhacking and a fair amount of devils club. The northern track of by gps was the better option with both less devils club and steepness. Once on the contours the undergrowth lessened and travel over moss was the norm. It’s not easy to tell when you are at the top. I walked the ridge a bit to make sure it wasn’t that bump over there. There was also still a fair amount of snow, so I post holed a good bit more than I was anticipating on the lower portion.
