Ascent Trip Report

Best hike of the Oahu port call! Trail is easy to follow. Excellent scrambling on the lower section of the trail before you begin the meander along the jungle ridge to the top. There is one exposed scramble where you downclimb on to a tiny spot above hundreds of feet of air. Don't slip! Otherwise the scrambling was tame as it was dry. A lot of beautiful knife-edge ridge walking which was a lot of fun. The scrambling could be hazardous if wet. It started raining on us as we finished the last half mile or so to the summit, a very light rain. This portion is pretty flat and in the trees, so no chance of falling off the trail anyway. Summit was breezy and completely socked in with light rain. We did not linger. Descent was not too bad. A lot of mud on the upper portion of the descent trail, but we were already soaked to the bone, so we didn't care. Right near the graveyard, we found some mangoes growing, so we each had one. They were excellent - a perfect end to an excellent hike! Onward to Mike's Huli Chicken and then some snorkeling in Kiulima Bay where we saw a lot of reef fish. Definitely a better snorkel than Chinaman's Hat area (which was still pretty good). Pics
