Ascent Trip ReportBeautiful Spring day, Deb and I figured we would attempt a bush-wack up Erebus from the high point of the trail that is just west of the summit. When we came within 4/10th's of a mile on the GPS to the summit, we headed east/north east finding a way between/around the cliffs to the shelf about 200' below the summit. Then we worked south to get around the marsh and up to the ridge, working north to the summit. We used ribbons on the trees to mark our return trip. We removed the ribbons as we descended. It took us 1-1/2 hours from the trails high point to the summit. (Actual distance about 1/2 mile.) Finding a path between and around the cliffs was difficult and at times very steep. Loved the bush-wack just wished we had better views from the summit. There was some of Lake George but we didn't get any photos from the summit but some on the way up and back, forgot the camera but had the phone. |
