Ascent Trip Report

I decided to go for a short evening hike after work and set my sights on a summit I had neglected for a long while. I had wanted to climb mont Irma-Levasseur, one of the few actual summits inside the boundaries of ville de Québec since many years ago but had never gotten to it. So after getting back home on a Thursday, I quickly changed and headed north. The traffic was surprisingly light and I made my way to rue Georges-Muir faster than I expected. I followed it until I reached the powerlines and parked on the south side at a wide gravel area.

I put my pack on an crossed the road, going through a sand pit. The trail didn't look good up ahead so I decided to cut straight ahead into the brushy terrain. This was a mistake as it was easy at first but became damp and muddy further in. I soon rejoined with the trail that wasn't too bad after all. I had to cross some remaining snow and as the slope steepened slightly, water started running down the trail. Before I reached the top of the trail, I headed north across the powerline swath towards the treeline. I wanted to check out the south summit before going to the main. In the forest, there was still over a foot of snow and I did regret not bringing my snowshoes. I postholed constantly and it was going much slower than I expected. Nonetheless I made it to the obvious high point and marked a waypoint in my GPS receiver. Then I headed towards the main summit, going downhill in deeper snow on the north aspect slope. After a while I reached a forest trail which was well packed from snowmobiles. I followed it east until it joined with the main access trail for the aerials at the main summit.
