Ascent Trip Report2012-08-21
With David Salinger and Julie Brugger. 08/19 Ross Lake boat to Big Beaver to Beaver Pass Camp; 08/20 Julie B. has the flu, despite that, we bushwhack up slope via Eiley Wiley Ridge and set up camp early so Julie could take care of her flu situation (very sick); 08/21 we moved camp to Challenger Glacier and climbed Challenger and returned to camp. It began to rain lightly. On 08/22 we descended into Luna Cirque and saw that the N Buttress of Fury route was out of condition. The snow and ice was melted far up, and the exposed rock slabs were being rained on by rock and ice fall. Reluctantly we give up on the N Buttress of Fury and ascended to Luna Lake and camped. On 08/23 we ascended to Luna col and climbed Luna Peak, then we hiked down to the headwaters of Access Creek and camped; 08/24 we hiked out from the 4,400ft camp on Access Creek to Ross Lake and were given a boat ride back to the Ross Lake Resort dock by some young men who were camped at the Big Beaver on Ross Lake. They were super nice. Dave came down with the flu virus at the Access Creek camp, and had to drag his way out with fever and aches. Despite, we made it home to Seattle that night.
