Ascent Trip ReportStarted from the upper parking lot, the vehicle bridge across the Illinois River was under water. Long sometimes hot walk up the logging road. At this point I would say there would be little to no hope of this road ever being open again in the future. Some sections starting to wash away and some big trees laying across the road. Snow on the high ridges, although the steep south side of the summit pyramid was snow free. We shortcutted some sections of the road to avoid some snow obstacles, and opted to scramble up the SE ridge to avoid the deep snow of the west ridge. Nice views from summit, long tiring walk back to car. The worst part of this day would be the 8+ hour sunday evening drive all the way back to Kennewick. Prior to the burn this looks like it would have been a spectacular area. |
