Ascent Trip Report

A long tough day. 3 tandems started out at about the same time and the old guys in their fifties were the only ones to make it - but quite a price paid. Windy from the start but on the way up just incredible gusts on Tejas switchbacks through the Bowl. Wind so severe scrambled last few feet to summit. It was too windy to stand on the summit. Did for about 10 seconds to take photos. Stayed at summit for maybe 3 minutes - Great views on way up and at top.

I guess we expended so much energy on way up battling winds, had little left for the quad killing descent down Bear Canyon which has some beautiful spots. Legs just quivering last 3 miles. Took me forever. Rex C. and I stayed pretty close to the top and he beat me down by two hours plus though we each agreed toughest hike we had ever done. Both just totally spent. Ate dinner in parking lot and immediately tossed it back onto the parking lot. The challenge was so much weather, wind driven. This by Texas standards is an above average tough hike in good weather. In that wind, a monster.

Still great feeling of accomplishment.
