Ascent of Sabine Parish High Point on 2009-08-21
|Date:||Friday, August 21, 2009|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
|Peak:||Sabine Parish High Point|
| Elevation:||490 ft / 149 m|
Ascent Trip ReportBesides the road, a short bushwack.
The high point is not obvious, I walked all around the small clearing, trying to identify the spot. From the car at the pullout, walk west about 100 feet, behind a sign "POSTED PRIVATE PROPERTY" ........signs of an old overgrown woods road heads in that direction. The high point is in the woods just to the left.
NB: as of this entry the PBDB shows the high point as being southwest of Many, I believe this is not correct. I got my information from Bill Schuler TR dated June 6, 2005 (see www.cohp.org/la/Sabine_1.html)
DIRECTIONS TO THE HIGH POINT
Starting at the East end on Many, junction of Natchitoches hwy #6 and Middle Creek road ....... a gas station is on the corner and to the north is a water tower. Many is located 70 miles south of Shreveport on I49, exit 138 and travel west 24 miles on hwy #6.
Travel east on Middle Creek road (at 2.5 miles it turns to gravel/dirt) for 4.1 miles to a main intersection ...... to the right is Fisher Fire Tower road and to the left Hickory Wood road. Turn left (north) and travel .3 miles to the crest of the road and a small pullout on the left ...... the fairly flat area has a small clearing surrounded by woods on a high land area. This is the high point area.
"ONE MAY WALK OVER THE HIGHEST MOUNTAIN ONE STEP AT A TIME."
