Ascent Trip Report

This hike was very interesting. Jeff and I drove here directly after hiking Black Mountain. For some reason we did not expect it to be such a long hike. We were under the impression it was going to be around a 6 mile hike. It ended up being a 9 mile hike and took a few hours longer than we expected. The big rocks were a cool sight, saw several of the famous ponies along the trail, and great views in all directions. The marker at the top was not easy to find. We walked past the marker at first then realized the trail was going no where. Figuring we had reached the top, and missed the marker we turned to head back. As we started back down, we noticed a marker stuck in a big rock. Very easy to miss! The hike back to the car was easy, but we again longer than we expected we ran out of daylight. We flipped our headlamps on (Jeff's was awesome! Mine not so much.) We confused the trail at one point, second guessed ourselves and headed down the wrong path. Although I knew they both ended up running into the parking lot, it was still a little disheartening not being sure where I was heading. It also got pretty cold when the sun went down, so I was glad to reach the car before it got too late. Went into town caught a Ruby Tuesday's then found a hotel. We were exhausted!!!
