Ascent Trip Report

Temp was around 0 all day. Pretty bad winds at open areas. Long approach from the winter parking lot at Forest boundary on Slippery Brook Road. 4 miles just to reach the summer trailhead - we XC skied on a very hard almost ice surface which totally wore us out on the way out (slight downhill). A further 2 miles on an old road brought us to the turnoff for the hiking trail. Almost immediately, the trail turns right to parallel the brook. This was where we crossed the brook (phenomenally difficult since the prior week's record heat blew out ALL the snow bridges). After crossing, old road to follow up to a really nice clearing (views of S Baldface). Then very, very open woods for the "bushwhack" to the summit.
