Ascent Trip ReportRented a scooter in Funchal and scootered to Pico de Ariero. Followed the very well-marked and well-maintained trail to Pico Ruivo (PR1). Took a small detour to have a look at Pico do Cidrão and in hindsight should have made more of an effort to get to the top of it - it looked doable. There are some superb views along the trail, and a flashlight is highly recommended for the long tunnels - it can be a little disconcerting to be totally alone in complete darkness with just a small shaft of light at the end of the tunnel to aim for. After Pico Ruivo, I followed PR1.2 in heavy cloud , which just ended up in a car park and really wasn't worth the effort. Perhaps the views are good on a clear day. It was cloudy all the way back to Pico de Ariero. Seems like my GPS got a little squiffy halfway through and jumped around quite a bit. |
