Ascent Trip Report

The track shows our ascent route of Peak 4673 and Peak 4620 further north in a big loop. If you are just climbing 4673 I suggest going down the way you came up. The whole loop is 10.9 miles and will take most of the day. Going down to the canyon from 4620 is OK, but the final part through the willows was a muddy mess for us. It finally became so soft that we had to thrash through 20 ft. of thick willows to the bank and then up a treacherous and loose slope to go around the swamp. The start of the hike is at a fence line at about 1730 ft. It is about 16.3 miles to there from Palm Canyon Drive in Borrego Springs. I have a route description in my report on nearby Peak 3500. The hike to Peak 4673 is 3.8 miles with a gain of 2950 ft. From there it is another 1.2 miles to Peak 4620 with a drop of about 450 ft. and a gain of 400 ft.
