Ascent Trip Report

I used Ken Oeser's directions from his 2004 trip report, but I did not ascend on the road he described. I parked at the parking area he mentioned and I just climbed straight up the east slope. It was steep and never let up, but the forest was relatively open with few thorns. From where I left my car my GPS showed .84 miles to the summit. There was one spot where I had to lose 50 feet of elevation, but then it was back to the steep climb again. I reached the summit after 49 minutes of climbing where I found exposed bedrock slabs and one view through the trees to the SW. For my descent I made the mistake of trying to avoid the area where I had lost 50 feet of elevation on my ascent. I tried to circumnavigate that spot so I wouldn't have to climb back up 50 feet during my descent. This forced me into a ravine that made for a much more difficult descent than I expected. I would have been much better off to have followed my original ascent route, even with the section where I would have had to regain 50 feet. As a result, it took me 53 minutes to return back to my car.
