Ascent of Maguire Peak on 2017-01-14
|Date:||Saturday, January 14, 2017|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||1688 ft / 514 m|
Ascent Trip ReportThe trailhead I used was 1.3 miles east on Welch Creek Rd from Calaveras Rd, in the Sunol Regional Wilderness. The trailhead is a gated fire road. There is room for about 4 cars without blocking the fire entrance.
The trail goes north for about 1.5 miles at which point you intersect the Maguire Peak Loop Trail. You can go either clockwise or counterclockwise. I went clockwise. In retrospect counterclockwise would have been more interesting as it requires a little Class 2+ climbing up the rock seams. From the summit, I bisected the circle and went cross country down the south face. From the top are nice views of the surrounding peaks to include Mission/Monument, Rose, Sunol Ridge, Diablo, and further off, Tamlapis, Loma Prieta and Uhmnum.
