Ascent Trip Report

Started the trip in the Muggins Wash at the entrance to the Muggins Wilderness Area. Crossed over the west hills as soon as possible into the next wash over and picked up the trail to the spire. After the trail petered out, continued on the ridge up to the west of the false summit, where I came across the first apparent cairns. Followed the cairns mostly along the western side of the ridge until topping out. On the way down, I tried to follow the cairns as far as I could, but again ended up on the same ridge after losing sight of the cairns.

Fantastic scenery, and had the mountain to myself. This is a superb Yuma-area alternative to the heavily trafficked trails in the Gila Mountains, as long as you don't mind a little exposure.

Used the GPS plot here ( when planning my general route.
