Ascent Trip ReportI want to add my voice to those arguing that Icy Knob is the high point in this range. Buzzard Roost appeared lower in the admittedly obstructed view from Icy, and my phone GPS had Icy at 3003' to Buzzard's 2974'. Unscientific, I know, but there seems to be mounting empirical evidence to favor Icy primacy.
If the community settled on that it would be good news. Ascending Icy only takes a couple of minutes and could be said to be a not-wholly-unpleasant stroll. However, the hike from Icy to Buzzard is about as lame as they come and is altogether lacking in recreational value. I took 1:50 round trip to Icy, Propst, and Buzzard, skipping Hickory due to being in 'f**k-it mode'. Before travelling to the South Mountains, really ask yourself why you want to climb them. I sure can't answer that after the fact.
