Ascent Trip Report

This is our 9th day of our "Texas Winter Trip 2017", the goal of which is to attempt my remaining 27 COHPs in Texas, thereby having attempted all of the Texas Counties (but not necessarily succeeding on all of them). Today we took-in a few small hikes on our way our son's place in The Woodlands, TX. all as per this one only TR.

BRAZOS-TRINITY-SAN JACINTO TRIPLE DIVIDE ( ..... short pasture walk, 300 yards, 15 minutes RT.
00.0M ... City of Huntsville, JCT I-45, exit 118, we zeroed our odo and motored west on Hwy #30.
18.6M ... turned right (north) on FM 2620.
20.3M ... turned left west on CR229 which jogs north
21.0M ... stayed straight (north) at CJT, road bends left (west) ahead
21.7M ... CR229 ends at 4-way xing and continues straight as CR240 (CR227 is on right).
22.4M ... parked at side of road just after a left bend. The HP is to the right after this last bend in an open pasture field. I crawled under a fence and stomped the pasture field, nothing obvious.

We continued south on the sandy road to the community of Richards.

LITTLE LAKE CREEK WILDERNESS HIGH POINT .... easy wack eb, 200 yards, 20 minutes RT.
From the JCT FM14486/#149 in Richards we drove east on #149 for 6.0M to a 4-way intersection (North is FM1791) where we turned right (south) on Bethel Road, 1.8M parked at the-crest-of-road. The obvious high ground is to the east at 100 yards in a beautiful tall pine forest with undergrowth. The bushwack is fairly easy.
I chose my HP at 2 trees (30.51279,-95.75523), built a wooden cairn, no views.

"FORT WORTH WOULD NEVER CROSS MY MIND, THERE'D BE NO AUSTIN CITY LIMIT SIGN, NO LONE STAR OF ANY KIND, IF IT WASN'T FOR TEXAS." ............ chorus "somewhere down in texas"
