Ascent Trip Report

I parked on the road at the driveway to the park since the park had not yet been plowed. Two families with kids were leaving from their snowshoeing when I got there. I busted out the Louis Garneau Snow shoes I bought two years ago and never really got a chance to use until now. I followed their tracks until they met with a CC ski track, and then I turned East and cut across the field, encountering more than one waist deep snow drift along the way. I met up with the ski track again at the wood line and followed that until the road split, and I stayed right to go up the hill. Being my first real hike with snowshoes on, it was slow going the whole way up with varying depths from ankle to mid-thigh high. I made it to the tower and thought the summit was to the east in another clearing, but as I approached and attempted to cross, I found that it was an impossibly deep drift and called it good. I made a small pile of snow and put a rock on top so I had something to jump from to get my hands on the framework of the tower and climbed two sets of stairs. The trap door at the top was frozen shut so I didn't make it to the platform. Still had great views from the stairs. I checked out the Scenic View on the way back down. a little bushwhacking led me back to my ascent track and I headed back to the car. I followed the road all the way out, and took a few pictures and videos with my now drone on the way out.
